Magdalena Frida Carmen Kahlo Calderón, or Frida Kahlo, was a Mexican painter. Throughout her life, she suffered from fragile health; a serious bus accident required numerous surgeries. After her accident, she taught herself to paint. Self-portraits hold a very important place in her work; at least 55 of the 150 paintings she created are self-portraits.
