An American painter with a meteoric career, he signed his work with his pseudonym, SAMO ("Same old shit"), on the walls of Soho in New York to gain attention. A winning strategy: in 1978, the general public discovered Jean-Michel Basquiat, and fame came knocking. He would become the first contemporary artist of color recognized by his peers.
His style, both contemporary and naive, with its street art influences, is striking.
