What a story! 🎨




 Antonio Canova's kyiv Peace, created after the Treaty of Tilsit in 1807 to symbolize reconciliation between Russia and France, has endured through the ages as an emblem of peace. Presented to Russia, it was later transferred to Ukraine. Today, facing Russian bombing, the sculpture is protected in the cellars of Kyiv. This symbol of peace, preserved amidst the current conflict, remains more than ever a powerful reminder of the hope for lasting peace. Justine Coquidé has reimagined this work in a collage, merging the statue with the astrological sign of Virgo. This sign, associated with purity, reflection, and balance, amplifies the sculpture's message: a world where conflict gives way to harmony. By combining drawing, a traditional technique she has mastered, with a contemporary approach to collage, Justine offers a new interpretation of Peace.




 The Virgin Mary is associated with the Greek goddess Demeter , goddess of agriculture and harvests. When she desperately searched for her daughter Persephone, abducted by Hades, her grief suspended the cycles of nature. This myth symbolizes the connection between the Virgin Mary and the harvest, fertility, but also order and care.


 In astrology, Virgo embodies precision, benevolence, and devotion to service, qualities faithfully rendered in this artistic creation.
