What a story! 🎨




 Tamara de Lempicka was a Polish painter representative of the Art Deco movement. Here is one of her most famous portraits: The Portrait of Marjorie Ferry. A wealthy businessman commissioned her to paint the portrait of his wife, Marjorie Ferry, a British cabaret singer, and asked the artist to depict her wearing the precious cabochon ring he had recently given her. Marjorie is portrayed enveloped in satin, like goddesses concealing their charms beneath drapery. The understated architectural setting, with its white columns, evokes Mount Olympus and elevates Marjorie to the status of a goddess. Tamara also attributes to her the characteristics of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and the arts. Today, Marjorie is no longer tied to her husband's jewels. The abundance of pearls, a symbol of eternal beauty, represents Marjorie's emancipation. Her husband's commission allowed her to become eternal in her own right.
